I'm wondering if anyone has this camera and what you think of it.
I've just discovered it and considering buying one
Thanks guys/gals
Hi candle57! I bought a Canon SX50 as soon as it came out, and have never been happier with a camera! I bought it mostly for the 50X (1200mm equivalent) zoom, but have also been very pleased with its super versatility. Its ability to 'sense' a scene, and then launch into the appropriate shooting mode, is almost scary. From super-zoom to macros, this little powerhouse really does the job!! I've attached some zoom shots of this May's Flower full moon, and a neat macro of a spider & a fly just to give you some idea of what this great bridge camera can do..Enjoy!

Wow! That is beautiful. You can almost feel the subtle texture. Well done.
Thank you sir. Let's see some of your shots when convenient, ok, now that you and I are related: SX's-In-Law :)

I was using the viewfinder Rich. I don't know how I could effectively show the steps, (about 5-6 photos) it took to capture the serve. Someone asked about the macro ability. I'll post a shot I took yesterday of some tiny flowers we have out on our deck. This one is only about one inch across, and I could have even moved-in closer, but my shadow presented a problem. I took it in RAW, converted it to DNG and finally this final product. I use Photoshop Elements, thus the DNG conversion.
Very good! It looks like it's as big as a sunflower.

Great job, Ergoedbo!! All good, but I especially appreciate the spider and fly. Good stuff. Great little camera, eh?

Thanks Jerry. I'm sure enjoying this camera! It will take a while to wear the 'newness' off it. :D

When I joined this site I had no idea I would be exposed to so many outstanding images. These are simply beautiful. I've seen a thousand moon shots, but none with such an interesting foreground. Are the spider and fly two separate images?
Thanks for your very kind comments Rich1! I've always been fascinated with the full moon, but never able to get the kinds of shots of it that the SX50 gets for me. I thought a bit of foreground might add to the MoodMoon shot, so actually zoomed out a lot to get it. (The SX50 at 1200mm actually more than fills the viewfinder, as in the MoonCopter pic) And no, the spider and fly weren't two separate shots..I was lucky enough to be able to catch them both during the fly's last minutes!

As per your request Rich, I've jammed four of the 'step by step' photos on one page, to give you an idea of what I was describing, on the 'sports' feature. Actually there are about 8-9 shots, but these four will give you an idea of what it's capable of. All 8-9 shots took place in just one press of the shutter. Great feature!

Wow! Look at those beautiful colors. I love that little bit of motion. You have inspired me to go out and try those flight shots again. Thanks for sharing.

I'm posting to a couple threads and can't recall what you may have already seen. Try this to see my blind set up for photographing nesting herons.

Nice setup, Rich! Carrying that lens setup around that you are holding could develop back problems :) Good shot of the bird!

Doesn't that lens makes a great prop? Now you can see another reason why I love my SX50! It will do as good (and better in most cases) as my "Professional" gear.

Excellent shot of you on your Avatar, Rich. Did you shoot that with the remote? I really like the lighting.
