Being an Old(er) person I tend to love old looking things. I find rusty things equate to my failing joints quite well. Here are a few fun shots...

i have to agree with you, i like shooting old decaying buildings and cars once in thei rprime now falling apart like me.
It's amazing how you wouldn't give things a second look, but a photo makes it art, thanks for showing me that, these fun to look at.

Just take a moment and look beyond the obvious. It's a lesson I learned during my junior year in high school in a creative writing class. The instructor took us on a field trip one day to an automotive junk yard. The next day in class we had to tell what we saw. Of course the most resounding answer was junk cars. As I sat there almost embarassed I was called on to tell my thoughts. I had seen colors and shapes and textures..chrome..paint... rust.... glass.... it was a kalidescope of things... WOW I got an A that day. She taught me to open my eyes and look beyond.... I treasure the memory of that teacher everyday.

howie I have to tell you when i stopped going out to shoot specific items like trees or murals or people, and strarted looking for shots that would demonstrate concepts like color, texture, shadows, geometric shapes etc my photography improved tremendously and i have never had a day where i couldn't find anything to shoot. ive shot potholes, manhole covers oil stains on roadways, broken glass weird stuff but i see paterns and interesting value in subjects like that. But i am a photography as an art kinda person who thinks realistic is way overrated. db you need to get a copy of "learning to see creatively" by bryan peterson. It has had a huge influence ion my work and I think you would enjoyit.
Love that 2nd pic. Good eye for nice composition.
DB thanks for sharing.

I love rust because of the various colors and textures it developes. And, I have an infinity for old vehicles, so the Dodge is my favorite. I have one suggestion and that would be to get much closer to your subjects if the rust is the subject of the image, try cropping to see what you get. Get close to the tailgate of the truck as well as from the distance of the original shot. Same for the barrel, the theme of the photo will change. It's a suggestion from a photography instructor from many years ago, it helps me see that there is more than on subject in most shots..
