Just wondering if refurbished camera from canon website are good but only 90 days warranty. Planning to buy for my son's as a graduation gift. Thanks for any help.
I have purchased factory refurbs in the past and will continue to do so in the future when the opportunities present themselves.
'Refurbished' basically means 'repackaged new' by manufacturer after some minor corrective tweak. Usually a very good buy.
Two years ago I bought a refurb 50D from Canon Direct.
It arrived as a new camera and has performed perfectly with fairly heavy use since day one.
I would not hesitate to buy a Canon refurb.
Thank you so much to all for the info.

Refurbs are my first choice in cameras. The only time this doesn't work is when you want the newest model - just introduced. I've gotten Nikon, Sony, and Canon refurbs - no regrets. The dealer will sell you an extended warranty for a reasonable price.
I have no reservation about buying a refurb. As good as new at much better price.

I bought a T3i about two weeks ago. Everything works. I did find it had 1880 shutter actuation's. More than I would like but not really a problem to me. I would buy it again for the price.
"Refurbished" also often means a return camera sold new and returned by the customer for whatever reason. Once a camera is sold new, the serial number is logged and cannot be repackaged and sold as new again. FTC regulation covers this.
So, many camera's sold as "refurbished" are often camera's that someone bought, opened, read the manual, got confused and took it back during a return period.
Most importantly, only buy "FACTORY" refurbs. You run into some refurbished items that are marked seller refurbished.
I buy refurb's almost all the time. Digital camera's depreciate so fast you need all the breaks you can get in the marketplace.
That said, I won't ever buy Printers and Scanners refurb. If they've been disassembled, it's very difficult to get all the pieces back together in good registration of the moving parts. That from a friend who works on printers, and won't touch any inkjet products.

Golly, I just sold my Fujifilm S5 Pro to a fellow in Belgium and he was ecstatic in spite of the 254,000 shutter actuations. The base for that camera is the Nikon D200. Picking up another this week that has 1400 clicks. Color me ecstatic as well.
I have purchased both new and refurbished cameras and lenses from Canon, and I honestly could not tell the difference. I would not hesitate to purchase from Canon and not be concerned about the 90 day warranty for the refurbished purchase. Gary

Also they are checked out where as many new cameras are not. I have bought refurbished and they're fine. The only camera I had to send in for repair was a new one.

Canon is a good company and I'd be willing to bet that if something happened to the camera 6 months into your warranty they'd still cover it. I took my 7D in for a simple clean&check but told them about an error message I got a few times. No receipt, no warranty card sent in, and the guy said, "this camera looks new so I'll cover it under warranty". My camera body was 1 1/2 years old.
I've also got a friend that sent an old point and shoot into Canon for repair and they couldn't fix it so they sent him a newer model with more megapixels that was completely refurbished for free and his camera was several years old.
