I ate a False Morel last year and suffered every symptom listed on the Internet except death.
Not fun!
Very nice pictures, CardinalLady

You do have to be careful...

I am glad someone knows bad fungus from good fungus. I know a lady who is doing a photo project of mushrooms, studio shots and in the forest shots.

We've had a wet year so I've kind of done the same thing. I need to identify what I've taken and then I'll probably do another challenge on the non edible fungus. So...start taking fungus photos!

Morels and fresh asparagus are two of the best things about spring.

I liked all your shots, but the last one was best. I liked that you got some of it's surroundings in the pic. It reminded me how great it is to just get away from everything out in the woods in the spring when mushrooms pop.

Do you know what that flower is?

Any of you who like shooting flowers and plants would love just wandering in the woods in any midwest state in April. Lots of beauty right in our "backyard."

It's a common blue violet. The woods are a lot cheaper than psychiatrists and more effective! I hike often with some great ladies, the oldest 85. Just got home from hiking at Patoka Lake today. I did a challenge on wild flowers this spring. I got some very nice shots and so did others. Check it out.
Thanks for the compliments! We do have lots of beauty in the Midwest.

My neighbor went on vacation a couple of weeks ago so I had to go pick and then eat all her wild asparagus. She has about 100 acres so I had to walk all around it to sites she had staked. I loved it!

My brother and uncle always hunted them up in the spring. I always thought that like most mushrooms, it's how you cook them that makes them tasty. Left to their own devices, they all taste like damp woods. But Mother fried them up and everyone thought them wonderful!

Midwest mothers can make anything taste wonderful. A CA girl and a CO girl just joined our hiking group and we all do a snack to share for lunch. They asked for my recipe and I think they thought I just didn't want to share my recipe when I told them I didn't have a recipe! I guess I'll try to write down what I did and email it to them...

My favorite is Jack in the Pulpit.

We have a few spots of "wild" asparagus, but most of mine comes from a patch my Grandma planted long before I was born.

Great shots! We found some few years ago in an area that had burned at Skilak lake, north on the kenai river- actually they came to evacuate us twice during the fire. We watched our neighbors packing up - first items they saved were a boat and a rack with a moose antler. Priorities.
morels and butter - nothing better -these are beautiful photos. I'm drooling. Thanks for sharing.

Those are great photos of a highly sought mushroom. I am so envious. The last couple years I didn't find any, this year decided not to hunt and wouldn't you know it...record finds this year. My family always dipped them in an egg wash, then cracker crumbs and fried till golden brown. Nothing else on earth is as delicous.

Great crop! Reminds me of the year our donkey, Molasses died (my avatar). We found 15 bushels in her field. Big, yellow sponge! Yum, yum!

Have a couple of photos of Jacks in that spring, Wild Flower Foray. I like them a lot also.

I've never seen a mushroom that looked like that Cardinal lady! I do have an e-mail friend in Bloomington, IN who talks about going out and looking for mushrooms to eat. I don't think I could do it!!

Nice pictures. We went to our cottage in Michigan, usually some people we allow on our property get them before we do. However, this year they left some for us. Since we don't get their until the end of May, someone may as well pick them in April. But, we got probably and 2 pounds. I'm wondering if there is a certain way to clean them and are there other mushrooms that look like Morels that are poisonous? Well, mine do look like the photos you posted, so I'm hoping I can get a few pictures of them maybe frying. Thanks for the photos, Cheryl
