My laptop is kind of heavy to carry on trips. I like to be able to transfer photos from my digital camera to the computer every evening. Can anyone tell me if there is a tablet that you can buy that you can use to transfer photos from the camera? Squeek

The iPad. I use it on trips as you describe. Just buy the cable and/ or card adpters ($29 for both).

Squeek , Microsoft's Windows Surface Pro, Windows 8 operating system, has usb ports, Its a true laptop so you can use it for MS Word and Excel and basic photo editing. I have a friend that just bought one for college and sold her IPad 3. She loves it.

The ipad does it easily and there are user friendly photo editing apps available such as Snapseed and Photogene that are inexpensive like the cables LPigott mentioned above.

The Nexto DI is a small external hard drive that can backup up to 750 Gig
There are many models and they are expensive, but they solve the No Computer problem when traveling. Go to B&H Photo Web site:

They come with Hard Drives or solid state drives.
Good Luck

I use the EEpad Android system with either the optional KB or USB adaptor with an external HD

The reason that I use the HD is that just one of my CF cards is bigger than the Pad's memory, and when I get home all I have to do is plug the HD into my editing computer.

The top rated and most durable tablets other than iPad are Samsung. Apple has even sued Samsung for being so similar on tablets, players, and phones. I just ordered a factory refurbished Samsung media player for my son which is virtually identical to an refurbished iPod Touch 4 except it's a fraction of the cost - and you can get your media from anywhere you want rather than being eternally damned to iTunes as your source.

Tablets have a very limited storage capacity so they're not actually ideal for what you want to do unless you have other reasons to have a tablet. You didn't say what your laptop weights but there's a new Google Chrome laptop (by Asus) for $259 and I believe it has a 320GB hard drive while only being about 1" thick and very lightweight.

Also if you are running Canon Camera there is a DSLR controller AP that will allow you to control the camera from the tablet and do 20 plus levels of HDR and or Stacking for Macro and Landscapes

It is called DSLR Controller

Before buying any tablet, how much space will you need, when I am on a photo trip I shoot 32 gig cards one raw one jpeg (tat will stop soon I never use the jpeg files). Anyway a tablets storage pace could get used up quickly on an extended photo trip
