profpb, Thanks for your comments about my photos. Yes, my favor Nikon lens is the 70-200 mm. I had this lens for about 6 years now. I understand that the Nikon 70-300 mm doesn't focus very fast, especially when you have it zoom to 300 mm. I guess I need to know what problems you are currently experiencing with this lens before I can give you any real advice. If it is not focusing properly, try to manual focus on the bird you are trying to capture. What spot are you focusing on? I try to do it its eyes if possible. The ideal speed to capture a bird 1/1000 or greater and f-stop is f-8. Do you use a tripod when shooting at lower speeds? Arnold
