Cactus out in the yard. 8 feet high and 10 feet wide. The bees love it.

Thanks for looking. I'm not sure if it is a single cactus or several. Its so thick that it is hard to tell.

That's a bigun alright, Yes, hard to tell if one or more. I wouldn't want to look down into the base of it.
I love the Pedernales River and how Texans pronounce it. It is spelled Pedernales but pronounced Perdenales. LBJs ranch is on this river and he probably got the pronouncing started. He is probably why French is no longer the international language. Bonejour Madam!

This is some kind of Opuntia or prickly pear, not sure on the species as many are similar.

Sorry, I wasn't trying to speak French. I was talkin for LBJ.
Also, we call them prickley pear, but it looks thornless.

Sorry, I misunderstood. And I'll spell monsieur correctly. We call them prickly pears too, although the one in the photo doesn't have any hard spines. But there are plenty with spines around too.

Thanks. Last year electric utility worker took some of the new leaves for his mother to cook. Jelly is good too.

Here in Phoenix the Prickly Pear is the weed of the desert and will grow anywhere - huge like yours. We love them because of their beautiful blooms. We have volunteer prickly pear all over the neighborhood.

When the new young cactus leaves some out, they are harvested, cooked and put into flour tortillas. They are called Nopales, and I'm here to tell ya they are really good! Mexican cuisine at its best.
