All of these are great captures, but my three faves are: "Moniko Male, "N'gurro & cub", and "Watchful Eyes". Some beautiful work going on here!

Beware The Hunter
N'gurro & cub
Stealth

These are my three picks, in the order shown. Here is my thinking on the matter, many of your stunning images because of the crop look like they could have been taken in a zoo or wildlife park. Beware The Hunter certainly says otherwise. The other two are selected because they are great images, good compositions, and perfect exposures.

All are great, the above three would be my picks for entering your contest.

Wow! They're all so well done it's hard to choose. I love the Moniko male.

I'm entering another photo contest and am limited to 3 entries. These are my favorite lion shots and am asking the good folks at UH to give me their thoughts on their top three.

You've helped me in the past when choosing images for contests so I've decided to come back to the well.

All comments appreciated

Thank you in advance

Ken - the zoo in Tyler Texas has a setup that would allow this shot - the lion enclosure is on a knoll, and the moat that separates them from the "edibles" is not visible.

And clearly that is not the case here, is it? I am well aware of various locations that are likewise constructed; however, a good eye can often tell. Which of these well taken images clearly says that it was taken in the wild? What is going to impress a photo contest judge more, a shot that may have been taken in captivity, or one that clearly is the real deal? The male lion and the two zebras image is still my pick. Another thing that makes this a strong image is it unique aspect ration, which is something else that will catch the judges attention.

I am very happy for Tyler Texas; but, I don't get your point in this instance.

All are great shots, but for me, the winner is Stealth. When I look at this photo, it seems to shout "I was born to hunt!" Good luck with the contest.

As has been said by everybody, all the images are terrific. I agree with your point about impressing judges. The entrant should read the rules and follow them as wildlife/nature definitions and what editing you are allowed are very strict.
I didn't select this particular image for the reason that it didn't invoke as much feelings and tension as my other choices did. The full frontal view and direct eye contact of Moriko Male made me feel trepidation as if he was slowly coming for me. The mother and cub image gave me that 'Ahhh' emotional feeling and watchful eyes made my hairs stand on end and gave me palpitations.

Photographs are 2 dimensional and an image should show a 3-D sense of depth by having elements at different distances or clever use of lighting, and the 4th dimension of invoking a feeling. For a competition, where the top entries will all be technically perfect, the winning entry comes down to the content of the image invoking a powerful emotion in the judge/s. Sometimes even a not-so-technically-perfect shot wins because of this powerful emotion.

They are all so very good that it's hard to choose, but I'll give it a try: Annoyed, N'gurro and cub, & Hero worship for me.

My point is, it's not "clearly the case" - just possible, like the other pics are possibly of captive animals.

We're going back in a couple of weeks - I'll see if I can catch them out on the knoll with a background.

Thank you one and all for your assistance and (very) kind words. So many of the suggestions were immensely helpful not just for this competition but for the future - I always learn something when I post images here. (I also love the differing opinions)

Thank you all again

Best,

I looked at all your shots, your last 3 shots, you had not removed the cage from their face... But here are the ones I liked:

# 3: Hero Worship
#6: Moniko Male
#1: Annoyed

and #7: N'Gurro and Cub

In that order.... but, I do love all of them even though you had not removed the chain link cage from the front of them.

Wow...You have a number of great photos that are difficult to choose from. My favorites, however, are N'gurro & cub, Stealth, and The Handsome One.
