My GD is getting married in Charlotte, N.C. on 8Aug this year, due to health I cannot attend. can anyone recommend a proficient photographer in the Charlotte area that won't cost me an arm and leg?

What's your budget?

An arm and a leg is kind of an open ended statement, what I think is pricey might be reasonable for you or vise versa.

Contact CaptainC on here. He has extensive contacts and is very good at helping with something like this.

Thanks for the reply, I would like to stay around $1,000 if that is possible for a good portfolio.

Argh August 8th is right around the corner, the only plus is that it's a Thursday, not a weekend. She might get lucky and find someone but she will need to act quickly.

A $1,000 budget is going to be tight as well, I posted on my other forum for you, someone might know another photographer in the area that they would recommend. The two I know are priced a little higher than your budget will allow.

Here are several wedding photographers in Charlotte. They are all photographers for Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep, a charity for which I am on the Board of Directors. I think they will be more than $1000, but you should check them out as you can be sure they all demonstrate a decent set of skills to even be accepted by the charity.

I don't know many $1000 or less wedding photographers. Well, actually I don't know any. But you should at least check these out. Be sure to tell them the charity board president passed their name on to you. That MIGHT help with the price. Or it could raise it!

Oldsouthstudios is amazing, I think their packages start at $4,000 (could be wrong).

The Schultzes (http://www.lovetheschultzes.com) are great as is Richard Israel (http://www.richardisrael.com) I love Richard's vintage/classic film feel. If my husband and I were to re-do our vows, he would be at the top of my list for photographers.

Looking over some of the wedding photography is so much better technically today than it was back in the 60's & 70's.
We had to use flash where today you are able to use natural lighting. Also, we had to put up with what the labs gave us in the way of quality prints. Digital today is so much better than film.
Also the prices are so much higher than $300 - $600 that was being charged back then.
I started out with a 4x5 Linhoff and b&w film and wound up with a Hasselblad 500.
