My memorial day special thanks.
I'm not too good at this kind of thing but here goes anyway.....I am 87 years of age and A veteran of WW2. I would like to say a special thanks to the few of us who are left and to the memory of the ones who have passed on. Truly this is a day for thanksgiving to ALL of our service men and women. WE have fought many wars in order to secure freedom. WW2 has been called the GREAT WAR. No war is great however, what we did in WW2 was, to me, really amazing. With help from the wonderful Brits, Aussies, etc...we kicked butts around the globe. War bond drives, scrape drives, women working building war machines, kids doing their share, Gas ration, food rationing and on and on. What a magnificent, tremendous effort ...but at a terrible cost of lives. I lost several pals and several relatives in this war. Some how, I was to serve State side tho' I had infantry training and was anxious to join the fray. So, I am sitting here thinking. Would those who gave their lives in this war approve of whats happening to our country. Would they say "Yes, it was worth it". Would they applaud the fact that we are beginning to be a welfare nation i.e. food stamps, W.I.C, lone star cards, free school breakfast and lunch. Yes, I left some out. Would they say " Open the borders and let everyone in especially those who hate us and wish to kill us with out declaring war. Would they say, " Was it worth it". One final thing and I will sign off. My parents and Grand Parents worked from sun up to sun down to feed a passel of kids. We pulled cotton sacks behind us, hoed the weeds, planted and gathered never getting much for the effort but able to sustain. Who would do that today. We were proud to be an American and when the WW2 begin, the morals we learned, the habits we formed, the work ethic learned helped us save the world from the likes of Hitler and his cohorts. GOD BLESS AMERICA!

God Bless America and God Bless you for your courage to say what you did. There are some brutal critics on this site, I truly hope they remain silent.
You and your peers are truly the "Greatest Generation". My father served in WW II and Korea. He rarely talked about what he experienced, but somehow respect for those who served was part of our upbringing. My respect and appreciation to you, sir, and to countless others on this and every other day of the year.
What you wrote, sir, contains the reasons why you are considered the greatest generation of Americans.
