How About Some Words Of Wisdom About My Pics.
What do ya'll think of these pictures of the waterfalls at the head of Collins Creek, Greers Ferry Lake, North Arkansas.

#1 and #2 are not bad at all. I might have cropped in a little bit on both to narrow them down, as the trees and vegetation on both sides don't really add to the impact, which is provided by the fog and creek itself.
#3 is out of focus.
#4 is a little underexposed, and cries out for a neutral density filter to smooth out the water flow.
#5 looks like it could have been a real winner had you used a tripod - that looks like camera-shake-induced fuzziness.
Now take into account the haze over the water, this creek comes off the bottom of a dam and the water temp is about 40 degrees while the air is 90+
Thanks for the suggestions.
Don't see a way to delete one of these, they doubled up. Sorry

You need more contrast, pump up the saturation and a hair trim on a tripod.

I do wish I had my tripod with me that day but was just an outing to take grand kids someplace cool, got some shots of the kids though. Thanks for the ideas. 8-)
That's getterdun, try listining to the sound track of Deliverance and get in the mood with a big chug of moon and take anouther toke.... ahh yeah
I'm back! all jokes aside you got a great location to work from, try to revisit and every time the conditions should be dirrerent you will begin to squeeze out every drop of a great location. I go back any time I can and after a few years, still seems fresh to me.

the mist from the first two really add to the mood of the shots. agree with all other advice tripod or even a monopod would have helped. do you hear banjo music?
I can hear Ole Blue Eyes singing "Jimmy Crack Corn" and the monopod is one of my essential light travel rigs.

First one, nice. I do a lot of waterfalls too. Even when you've shot a thousand of them, you keep trying. Like sunrises and sunsets.
The second one, can't tell on my laptop how sharp it really is, seems a bit softish, but that might be the water mist. Third one is kind of blurry. Last one, also can't tell on this screen... might be able to see it better on my other computer.
Hard to tell a lot of the time what is mist and what is blur. I think that's why they are such a challenge ... and of course, they are always moving, too! Pretty place!
I keep the tripod in my car so at least I can get to it if I need it. My problem is that I never think I need it. I am wrong.
Time is also the big factor here as sunrise and sunset sometimes are impossibe. Try again when fall hits and get a differant time of day and go by yourself if possible that's when I can do me best with nobody trying to hurry you up cuzy they forgot to piss in a toilet and men have the edge there.
Or get you a real Razorback Gal who can put it out and take it too, I got a gal from Waco who is a whacko but she's the best in a kitchen as long as you got the convienciences we all hold so dear and she loves me most of the time too.
Hey olhippie! Perhaps I'm missing something but you are aware aren't you that all the settings your camera used is recorded as an Exif file in your images? This is the 'metadata' you will read about on forums etc. It is kind of hidden but can be accessed when you upload to your computer. It will give you details of shutter speed, aperture, ISO, focal length, whether flash was used or not, focussing point, time and date, etc etc. But you still can't beat the log book for recording the weather conditions, location etc.
Nice work friend.
