Help Setting The Shutter Speed On A Canon SX50 HS

I know this might seem like a dumb question but I am trying to set the Shutter Speed on my camera ( Canon SX50 ), I could not find it in my users manual.

I would like to experiment with a waterfall, correct me if I'm wrong but to.....
Blur water takes a slow shutter speed of 1/15th of a second, f/16 at ISO 400
Almost freeze water takes a faster shutter speed of 1/60th of second, f/8 at ISO 400
Freeze water takes a shutter speed of 1/500th of a second, f/2 at ISO 800
Is that right?
I also read that the correct setting on my Canon camera would be the "TV" mode, every time I switch to this setting I get a shutter speed of 1/800 with two green arrows pointing down. I cannot seem to change this, on the lower bar are the icons AWB, Daylight, Cloudy etc etc. Is the setting I should be on or am I doing something wrong. Thank you

When in Tv Mode, just rotate the dial around the big round button. This will adjust the shutter speeds.

400D. Not sure if all Canon functons are the same but I set to TV and turn the knurled wheel just behind the shutter release. Generally I set my ISO to 800 & shutter speed to 250 & let the camera sort the aperture, lazy - but catches most of those spure of the moment shots.

Omg that was easy thanks. the freeze water test worked fine outside, I then adjusted it to blur the water and everything came out white I adjusted the exposure - and still photo came out white went indoors and photo was fine, do I need to set another setting for outdoors for a slow shutter speed?

If everything came out white, you were probably overexposed. If it is a very bright day you will probably need a Neutral Density filter. Some people (even with top of the cameras) end up using an ND-4 or ND-8 filter that reduces the light dramatically so that they can use slower shutter speeds. Try it on a cloudy day, or late in the day when it is darker.

You say you were using ISO 400 and 800. Try ISO 100. Even then you may need a neutral density filter for longer exposures outside.

Lorima, there is a 262 page complete user's guide online, free, at:

http://gdlp01.c-wss.com/gds/0/0300008700/01/pssx50hs-cug-en.pdf

what you are looking for is on page 152. I tried to paste a hot link so you could open, but to no avail. I downloaded the whole bundle, quite revealing in all the aspects of this wonderful carry around camera.

That manual (but without the 'COPY' stamp on every page) comes on the CD with the camera and is installed if you load the Canon programs.

Thanks everyone I downloaded the user manual last week some things are very helpful but some are very confusing, I was also looking through the manual to see if I could delete all photo's from my camera after downloading them into my computer, it shows you can delete all photos at one time but does not show how to do it.

If you format your card in camera after you have downloaded the pictures it will erase all that is on the card.
