I live just up the road from this beast, 3 versions of the same image, I always have a problem deciding if this type of shot looks better in B+W, and have I made it to dark? I think the last version has more impact.

Nice shots.. Somewhere inside you will find my authorisation stamp. I was a Quality Engineer for the hydraulics (rams) used.

#3 loses too much detail for me. I took your original thumbnail, ran it thru tonemapping with Photomatix, converted to grayscale, increased contrast and lowered gamma, and ended with an image almost identifcal to #2. LOL And that's the way I like it.

Sastimos, I think you hit the nail on the head with the second image. The B&W has my eye scanning the entire image due to the excellent contrast and clarity. Well done, and thank you for sharing this engineering marvel.
