But this isn't a "magnifier" it's for correction to not to have wear glasses. It makes what you see in the viewfinder clearer, not bigger. Same thing binoculars have on one of the eye pieces. My Nikon has a little wheel next to the viewfinder that adjusts the diopter. My old film Nikons had screw in diopters to accomplish the same thing

Different then diopter---had that on my camera so then I wouldn't have had to buy magnifer. If it was made to make things clearer they wouldn't have called it a magnifer. You simply remove your current eyepiece and replace it with this one. Considering their eyepeice replacement is $5, $36 is a little more expensive. Wait until I get it and I'll let you know how it works.........

Very sorry, I am wrong, they do make a magnifying eyepiece.
Here's what I found in some of my old literature
looks like it will magnify 1.7x

You know NYWeb, when I was posting that I wondered what camera you had? I guess we have gone off on a tangent

Canon Rebel XS....now I'm a ways from Penfield.....I'm waaaay out in Albion !
I did a quick scan and didn't see that any one had mentioned this yet so I thought I would add my 2 cents.
I too missed my split screen focusing from my old SLR days and saw an article in PBASE, where I am a member on the subject. I have a Canon 7D and replaced the focusing screen with one from [katzeyeoptics.com] they have an excellent primer on focusing screens and offer a few choices. They also have instructions for replacing them yourself or they will do it in conjunction with the purchase for an additional fee. I chose to replace it myself and am extreamly happy with it. Also it has no effect on auto focus as the screen is not part of the auto focus system just the viewfinder. Dave.

Yes that looks like the eyepiece I ordered. It seems that everything Nikon comes up with so does Canon and vice versa so I would check in with a good shop that handles Canon and see what's available. It might be this time next year by the time I get mine if it has to come from overseas because of the Tsunami and monsoon seasons. As soon as I get mine I will let you know if it helps---good luck on your search........
Do you know if the hood that you can put over the viewing screen magnifiies or can be ordered with a correction in it.

I'm looking for any information about focusing screens.
If anyone has modified thier camera with these and any issues they have encountered.
I miss my focusing screen from my SLR days. I know it's still available on some upper end models but thats about it.
I have found a website that sells kits for pretty much any make\model. I'm just looking for some more information before persuing this further. Thanks in Advance.

I posted this earlier but it ended up on the wrong thread so I will try again and add the quote so it makes sense. Bear with me I will get the hang of it soon I hope.

Thanks Bob I will check it out. Dave
By the way, I looked all over for Canon magnifying eyepieces and didn't find any. At least not like the Nikon one. They do make diopters, and a eyepiece that is longer for use with glasses, but it reduces the magnification by something like 30%.
Woo hoo!!!
My Katzeye come today!! :)
