Recently I had the opportunity to visit the my non-profit out in California and take some pictures with my new portrait lens of the tutoring and mentoring program in action. The challenge, besides figuring out the new lens, was to shoot with available light only, so as not to disrupt the kids while they were studying. These were taken at f2.8, ISO 800 & 1600, with the new Panasonic GH3, Micro 4/3 camera and the 35-100mm lens (equivalent to a 70-200mm lens). Advice and comments appreciated.

Great shots kerfree..the third one made me smile (I still do that) and the last one looks like the light is coming from the book he is opening..wonderful.

Good for you...good shots!
These are really excellent, Kerry! Especially without artificial lighting, they're amazingly well done. And the lighting on the last one is outstanding. Great work!
Well done...going by the expressions you captured I'd guess the program is a success.

There's nothing like low light for putting a camera through its paces.
I think camera and photographer both come out of this looking pretty good!
The little boy counting and the last really catch the moment. Just lovely.

Hi Photog, thanks for your encouragement. Yes, to my amazement, an incredible success - started tutoring a handful of kids in a low income neighborhood in '97 and now we have K-12 mentoring programs serving hundreds of kids in 3 neighborhoods. All our kids graduate from high school and most of our alums are in college now - so proud of them
