So as you all know I just got my new T3i....for some reason the batteries no matter what pack I put in are going dead the day after I insert them. My camera is not left on, everything including the grip is off. Any body have this issue and if so what is it? How do I go about having this problem stopped?!! Its annoying as all HELL!!!!

I had that problem with my old Nikon D80 and it was a firmware issue. I had to update and it was good as new. Not sure if this helps or not but good luck with it!

You just mentioned "Battery Grip"....I have heard of discharge problems with off-brand (non-Canon) grips and/or batteries. I tried to quick check your posts but didn't see which you bought....OEM or ?

Try them without the grip. See if the grip is draining them. It is possible. I'll assume you are using genuine Canon batteries.

If using a grip, equal age batteries work better for me on my T1i and XS.

Another thought is don't let the new batteries drain all the way, I think it harms NiMh batteries. I pull mine when the middle bar of battery strength icon goes away.

Just a check list. Are they genuine Canon batteries? Is it a genuine Canon grip. Most 3rd party Canon batteries and grips will work just fine. Some will not. As suggested fully charge a battery and use it in the camera body without the grip. If it retains a charge the grip is the culprit. If not, buy or borrow a genuine Canon battery and place it in the body, if it still doesn't retain a charge the problem is most likely the camera body. If its a brand new purchase most reputable dealers will exchange it.

I wonder if there is a fault in your camera or grip. I never turn off my T2i; I have "Auto Power Off" enabled and the internal battery lasts for ages. Several hundred shots with IS on and no sign of discharge when not used.

He's not talking about several hundred shots, the OP is talking about a single long exposure lasting several hours. The average Rebel battery will last around 2-3 hours for a single exposure at most. With IS on, the battery will go dead sooner.

That was an entirely different thread. Read the original post.

What gives you that idea?

Edit -- And now I see the post above. We are all entitled to make mistakes. Me - I installed a glass belly button so I can see where I'm going with my head up my a**
