Just search for Arca Swiss plates in the Camera and photo caterory. I purchased both ball heads that already had arca swiss mounts, just plates, and new base plates to change out on my exsisting ball heads. It all started because I bought a gimbal head with an arca swiss mount. You will also have to search for arca swiss ball heads to get the other side and there are some combination sets as well.
Have fun.

Since I don't have any Arca Swiss equipment now, I would have to buy a plate to mount on top of my tripod and ball head, correct?

I understand that I can buy Arca release plates, but what do I look for to attach the release plate to?

Yes I had to do that on some of mine. If you search the previous mentioned searches you will find all that you need. Pay attention to the thread size on yor tripod base if you decide to change ball head and all or the tread size on the ball head if just changing the quick release plate.

I have made several plates for tripods, and found the best material is plexsan or plexiglas which you can buy at most box hardware stores. I use the 1/4 thick and it is easy to work with, and more durable than plywood. I counter drill it and use with counter sink bolts 1/4 20 at the proper length. I have mono pod that I leave in my truck made of pcv and using a 1/4 20 screw that I carry with me at all times. If you want pics pm me.

You might find a better selection on [www.shopzilla.com] and just search for arca swiss. they have some good combinations. Dave

I have a Vanguard Tracker 4 tripod witha GH-100 lever ballhead. If I wanted to use Arca plates, I'd have to put an Arca-type mount on the tripod/ballhead and then get Arca release plates, correct?

That is correct you just have to match up thread sizes most have adapters so the will work with both the comon sizes.

Thanks for the info. I think that for the expense involved, I'll stick with my two styles of release plates.
