Your reflection photos are beautiful. You obviously know when to show up to shoot because the water looks like glass!

I could avoid this and perhaps my esteem would remain on a higher plane but in reality, the timing was totally serendipitous. You overestimate me. I do only go out to shoot early morning and late evening but didn't figure on the water.

Ok,
I know that everyone has different thoughts; the first is a little dark and I think the limbs are distraction. Maybe a shift to the left in composition would have been better. The second one I think I would crop some off the top or composed to have less of the actual sky showing on top the reflection in the water is great and that is what you are showing off not the other. The third pic I would have shown more of the foreground and less of the background rocks. The next one I would lighten the trees and reflection just enough to bring them out more without losing the great color on the cliffs. The last one I really like except I would lose the rock in the right bttm. corner. I am probably wrong; these are just my thoughts.
Ok, br I know that everyone has different thoughts... (show quote)

You're never wrong in my mind even if your choose to go the wrong way on the LA Freeway if that was your intentions. It wouldn't be mine but...

Thank you. Your comments were right on and I appreciate them. That's what I'm doing in this forum, seeing if I can provoke others thoughts so that I may improve my own. The frailty of only being able to view the final image as a stand alone issue sometimes overlooks the other issues that factored into an image from the outset but ultimately, an image has to stand alone without respect for what went into the making of it. Thanks again.

Edit 3 Close to shore. Also some sky effects could be added with layers because sky is just blah,,,, I am interested in your Critique of my Critique. Be Gessman,,, tough and to the point... Don

Hey Don, I like what you've done and I still have room for yours and like mine as well. You brought out a lot more texture and it's very appealing and I feel that however start my contrast was has been equaled by your rendition. Often, it's easier for an person who is critiquing to disassociated from the scene more so than the person who took the shot and can be more objective regarding the correctness of an image in terms of composition when presented to an unbiased audience but your re-work, IMHO, moved the original too far from where it started out for my comfort. You did a nice quick and dirty remake and it is very appealing and overall in better balance, no doubt, but that's not what I saw or took a picture of. How's that? Tough enough?

C'mon now folks, give me some good solid critique. I see stuff wrong with these and I know there's stuff I'm not seeing so let me have it while you hone your instructive skills. I promise to "take it like a man." Thanks. I appreciate your help.

I purposely did not look at the other comments. So here it goes.
Great subject matter.
really like some of them. Others I found just a touch to dark. Just a little. Overall beautiful pictures.

Mr. G. I agree with you that I personally like to put myself into the place with all the surrounding that I see when taking the photo. My critiquing is based on the CClub rules of judgement. Standard things like exposure, but composure requires basic theme,,, Like a photo of a glass works, you could feel the heat from the ovens, step on broken glass and burn your eyes.... but the months theme was glass,,, not people not trash cans of broken glass not not not... ok crop down to half of Ms Gott glass blower and the red hot glass ... now that would have scored high. As shot as you and I like,,, low points,,, 50% OUCH

So, I see what is needed to be a better photo based on photo evaluation standards. Those standards are listed in the american,,, whatever organization.

Hay, Bacannonner I like that it is way out imaginative

Oh, another comment: Last month, my photo was put on the "rack" (as in inquisition) for judging, i whispered to the guy next to me, look, the photographer shoulda... once it was up for judging, i became a judge of my own works and saw what I could not or would not see at home when it was mine alone. Psychology at work.
