Going to MacBook Pro and the retina display. I use it and it's great.

Let'd also remember that Transmitted light and Reflected light are different and perfect matching will never fully match.
Figured that out a long time ago. :-) But some people, are just slower than others.

For years, I used my MacBook Pro. Then I bought a MacBook Air. Fits in my purse and camera bag easily. If you want more processing, when you get home you can transfer. i always save photos on the laptop and a flash drive when traveling and carry them in separate baggage.

Laptops are ok for editing (that's where I do mine) but really...they don't cut it...they are too directional...the colors aren't as accurate as a good monitor and the gamut isn't as good as a decent stand alone monitor.
"gamut"? What do you mean by that? The definitions I have don't match this sentence.

I also use my laptop for editing, in fact, everything now. I use a Dell inspiron with a 17 inch screen. When on the road for more than a day it goes with me. However, when I am home I have larger dell monitor attached to it for photo editing. The larger the monitor the better, easier on the eyes and for seeing detail.

I used a lenovo r61 laptop until I saw my images on a decent monitor.
The colour of my photos was far too intense as I had been adjusting them to suit the monitor of the lenovo.
The lenovo was/is a great laptop, reliable as a hammer and well built. Apparently lenovo make laptops suitable for Photo editing but the R61 is not one of them.
So avoid this model.
There is absolutely no reason for images to turn out that contrasty or over-saturated from your laptop monitor. You can configure all of this. On my laptap, if I go to
Control Panel > Adobe Gamma I can fine-tune the contrast, saturation and color balance of the monitor's output. Once you've made the adjustments to the monitor so that image appearance is fairly accurate, you can then save the configuration as a profile, and do all image editing with that profile.

MacBook Pro. 32 GB Ram :LR, PS CS6, NIK Plug-ins. Screen calibration far less problematic than my IMAX. One terabyte external drive for large files, etc.

No, unfortunately there's no matt retina display so glare has to be dealt with. That and loosing 2" was almost a deal killer, BUT it's so much faster and so much more color correct, I figure its a trade off.
I upgraded from a 17" matt screen MacBook Pro dual core Intel 2.93Ghz, to a 15" retina display MacBook Pro. The new laptop has an i7 Intel Quad core running at 2.83GHz (boost to 3.8GHz, 16GB ram (max) and a 750GB SSD drive (both max from Apple).
This new machine SMOKES through my 36.4MP Nikon D800 RAW files so fast it's amazing (no more spinning wheels ;`). Once opened the raw files become 200+ MB's each, add a layer or two and you're easily over 1 GB image and it's still not a problem for the new MBPro. I'd recommend it to anyone! The new machine calibrates perfectly with a Spyder4Pro system, the old machine could NOT be calibrated by any tool.
When home I hook up to a EIZO ColorGaphic 22" monitor.
Best of luck, buy the MBPro;`) Alan

I have a HP 15.6" and only use it to store and view my images when we're away...all my editing is done on my PC monitor at home...
My son was down to visit me and I was complaining about my Samsung laptop, hated the keyboard, was too small and I just could not hit the right keys, always had my hands in the wrong place. So when he got home, he sent me a new HP Elite-Book Pro, 19 inch with IPS screen, it is great for editing and view angle is almost 180 degree. Also, it has a full size keyboard with number pad. Only downside is it's big and heavy.

I use the same and as Alan points out, smokes through D800 RAW files with no problem.
I find the Retina display to be very accurate. I profile both my monitor and printer with XRite's ColorMunki. Everything from albums to professionally printed prints come out perfectly matching what I edited on screen.
The SSD drive makes a huge difference when using Lightroom 4 and Photoshop. Smoking fast drive.
