I just got the lens in the mail yesterday. It is an old 400mm sigma lens. I think I am going to like it. I am using it on my D200. I think I am starting to see a theme in my equipment. All old second hand but it fits my budget. :)
We used to farm like this also. Old second hand equipment. When the bottom fell out in the 80's we were some of the few that got to keep the farm because we weren't mortgaged over our heads.

Hey good for you,
Now you can really roll up your sleeves and go to work
Have a ball!
Nice to hear too that you were able to keep your farm.

That is if I can get the cat to get away from the bird feeder. He was sitting under it in this picture. The birds are pretty much on to him though and clear out when he is around.

We will see how I do once I learn this lens. No matter what it is all fun.
I am glad we still have the farm also. It was a bit scary in the 80's with them going under right and left. When we married it was the plan for me to farm full time until we were doing well enough that my husband could quit his job and farm full time also. He never quit his job, but for 25 years he worked full time off the farm and farmed full time after work. It was a good way to raise the kids, though he is much happier now renting the land out and not worrying about the crops.

I am glad you got your lens and bet it will be an asset to you. I also understand about your farm experience as I was raised on a farm /ranch in west central Texas. Starting in 1948 we were in a severe drouth . I was a teenage so I did most of the farm work while my dad worked a job. We struggled hanging on til 1953 and the drouth got more severe each year so my dad said that is it so sold out.

The newer version of this lens is the one on Fred Miranda, the one with 77mm filter threads...I've bought this same lens off of another UHH'r. Waiting for the big brown truck to arrive now...

Too bad I didn't have the money to buy that lens. Maybe in a few years.
