Google it.
As for outside...lol...a 7' umbrella? Hopefully you don't live where there is any breeze.

I wonder how they measure that. Rather than straight across the open area, it might be from edge to edge, over the top. That would make it sound larger than it looks - like the way they measure TV screens.
Are you sure that umbrella is for photography or you patio furniture?

They measure it "on the curve" so you don't get 7' across....more like 5' or something...but still...it's huge.
I have a 5' one that's huge...I can't imaging a 7' one.

It sounds like what they call a golf umbrella - the very large ones.

Lee, I've used a lot of umbrellas outside but never over 42". Your talking really big. I think it will really soften the light. I assume you are still shooting through the white umbrella? The white behaves like a soft-box.
I will presume the big umbrella will cover a very large area IF you have enough power in your strobe. I also presume it is your key light, no matter what color. I've also not heard of the silver color being a problem, only the gold. Can you ask them where you order the umbrella? Get some good sized sand bags with it!
Good luck

A fellow I knew a few years ago purchased two eight foot white umbrellas to take photos of his large church choir. The photos were incredible. He and hiw wife had both been professional photographers in the Ukraine. They had ofter used very large brolly type reflectors for years, but those were home-made. When he found out, he could order them manufactured, they were both ecstatic. I was at the shop when he picked them up. He was so happy, he spent about two hours demonstrating their capabilities. The only problem was trying to load them into a very old and very small Vauxhall.
I ordered the silver..... When I get it and play with it I will post pictures!!!! Thanks so much to all for your help!!!
I got a similar size umbrella a few weeks ago - a 180cm parabolic (I light in metric). Trying it inside propped up against stuff got nice results, however not one of my stands can hold it up. What stands are you planning on using?

Did you look at Paul Buff's PLMs? They are about $20 cheaper than the Wescott and will mount directly to your AB's.

Lee-Lee,
You will notice many small differences between the two different types of reflectors.
The Silver reflector will produce a much harsher reflected light, causing harsher shadows.
The White Reflector will soften the reflected light, and allow for softening the shadows.
There may be a 1 f/stop difference between Silver and White.
A White umbrella should be a "Shoot Through" as an option. With this option you can vary the harshness of the lights by using the umbrellas as a light diffusing device.
Skin tone may vary between the two umbrellas because the Silver reflector will reflect more harshly and penetrate deeper under the skin. As for color balance that is controlled by your camera and PP software.
