no experience with it but my guess is that it won't hold a candle to the nikon which is one of their "gold band" pro level lenses. of course, I have no experience with the nikon either which renders my post nothing but meaningless guesswork. sorry.

If you are talking about the 10-24 DX Nikon lens, it is one of their highest performing DX lenses. However, I do not think it is one of their "gold band" pro line lenses even though it consistently receives everyone's highest rating. My experience puts the Nikon at a full 5 stars!

I recently acquired a Tamron 10-24mm lens for $449 (after Tamron rebate). I have never used a Nikkor 10-24mm for comparison.

Moving steam locomotive, and indoor static display.

10-mm at f/16
10-mm at f/16...

At 10-mm
At 10-mm...

10-mm at f/11
10-mm at f/11...

I would not hesitate to buy a Tameron, Sigma or Tokina lens if there's a significant savings. All three are excellent lenses.

I really like the photos Nikonian72, the lens seems to work very well. Where did you find a steam locomotive?
Do you know if that lens would work on my D5200?
