Hi Lorenww
Not fully understanding he difference, is this an example "selective colouring" rather than "spot colouring"?
Brushing through a coloured version onto a B&W background?

This one (church window) looks creepy to me, rather like an extract from some sort of horror movie.

Incidentally, no one has yet made a comparison between this spot/selective colour on photos and in films. I thought it was really effective in Schindler's Lists, the red coated girl lost in all the black and white people and background. Brilliant.

Can you tell us how they differ?
I've heard of printers using spot color.

Before Bill Gates and Epson printers, I was a lithographic printer . We used spot colour a lot mainly for advertising hand bills, which must have been successful, because we done thousands of them

Not sure I understand the point you're trying to make. Every thread has a singular purpose and is posted to get a specific kind of response, so what? Most generally it's the follow up posts that take a thread off course. Much like you and I have just done.

I can assure you the person who posted that bit of manure would NOT be happy with these responses. THEY thought they were a photographer.

Did they do this stuff in the days of black and white silent movies? It would have been very effective.

For those purposes, it can work well. But those are NOT the type of images we are discussing.

How do you know that? They might have been making a joke in bad taste. I've seen worse things in some frats celebrations.

I can put up with "capture" it is to the point and clear. Bokeh - I don't particularly like the word, but what is there another one with the same meaning? What do you suggest?

Capture just sounds pretentious to me and bokeh is seldom used correctly here.

My training is in photojournalism, not fine art, so that's probably why I think that way.

Having read through all 96 pages of the "youarenotaphotographer" web site just a few weeks ago and looking at the "awesome!" and "spectacular!" comments that had been posted about the awful photos at the time they were posted on their respective pages...I think it's a very good bet.

because in order for images to appear on this page they MUST be samples from a "professional" photographer's porfolio. The "professional" must have a website (or facebook page) and be solicating for clients.

I think bokeh is generally understood and used correctly on UHH, but what would you suggest in its place?

I like to use the word Capture - as that is what we usually are doing - Capturing an image our eyes & mind likes.
