Bring Oxygen. Altitude is near 12,000 ft in some areas. Not good for COPD. :D :D Beautiful everywhere you look though.

This photo is of Upper (or maybe Lower) Antelope Canyon, near Page, Arizona. It is not a cave, but a slot canyon. It's beautiful there. I think you can only get there with a guide. But it is worth the effort. Hope that helps.

The photo in your post is Upper Antelope Canyon, in Page Arizona. It's not to be missed, as well as Lower Antelope Canyon. These are slot canyons on Navajo land and there are many guides/tour operators that available in Page to take you to the Upper Canyon. Lower Antelope Canyon is just off the highway and requires no guide, just payment to the Navajo for access. Page is about 2 hours from Bryce Canyon and I strongly urge you to take the time to visit Antelope Canyon. If you get to Page and have the time, I also recommend you book a guide to take you to White Pockets, in the Coyote Buttes area. It's also not to be missed.

Upper and Lower Antelope Canyons are on Native American land and require guided tours to visit. There are several reputable jeep tour companies in Page, AZ. Colors in the slots range from purple to orange to pink depending on the time of day! Also, another "must see" in that area is Horseshoe Bend on the Colorado River , about 5 miles southwest of Page (requires a 1/2 mile hike).

Gordon,

Plan way ahead, at least one month, you will have to have a guide and the slots (pun intended) fill up quickly. Your guide may be able to provide valuable info on camera settings as they should remember what others have used in the canyon before. Be sure and ask about the best time for the 'shaft of light' coming down from above and book that time for your tour, if that is what you are trying to capture.

People have died in these canyons during flash floods so watch the weather and be careful.

Post some images when you get some.

Eric

They have tours of the slot canyons in Page, Az. just for photographers. Make sure you get in on one of these tours, otherwise you will be in the slots with hords of others... and they won't let you use a tripod. The photo tours will...

Just visited Bryce Canyon a couple weeks ago. We felt it was the highlight of the southern Utah "Circle" (of parks). But Mossy Cave (which we didn't explore) was the only cave in that area that I was aware of. As others have already stated, I'm sure your thinking "slot canyons", and not "caves", as such.

But Bryce is a wonderful photographers area. You won't be disappointed, caves or no caves.

If you're in the area of Bryce - beautiful - head to Page, AZ where you'll find the slot canyons. We didn't go to Antelope (Upper and Lower) because my husband dislikes crowds, but read there is a photography tour available. We saw the entrance on the road between Page and Kayenta (Monument Valley), with people riding in the back of open trucks.
We found Hummer Tours in Page and went to Secret Canyon. Flash floods had washed out the two other canyons they take folks to but Secret was very pretty and no one was there except for the five of us. I got some great pictures with no crowds.
Also, in the Page area you'll find Navajo Bridge over the Colorado where condors often fly around and sit on the bridge.
Good luck.

Also wondering if the cave might have been Lehman's Cave in nearby Great Basin National Park.

Great Basin National Park is in Nevada, and Bryce Canyon is in S. Utah. And it isn't Lehman' Cave which is a limstone cavern like Carlsbad. I think the item you should be searching for is Antelope Canyon, as someone has already mentioned. There are some posts about it. I think I read there are a couple of areas tours are given. Something about $20 for self-guided tour, and $50 for the two hour, cram everyone into a box canyon, tour.

To get the sun rays you see in photos toss a hand full of sand in the air it will give you a nice fine dust cloud for the sun rays to light up

Hi Jimni2001 - been thinking of taking a trip across country next summer and I am in a wheelchair being paralyzed from an accident. Would you by any chance know first hand if any of the slot canyons are wheelchair accessible?

Bryce Canyon Rim Road is 8,000-9,000 ft. No Oxygen required.

The photo is Antelope Canyon in northern Arizona. It is an incredible place but definitely over-photographed. Seems as if every pro and a ton of amateurs endure the ordeal in order to take this same photo over and over. As far as guides go, I believe you have to employ a native guide to take you into the slot. Once there, along with several others, you will have only moments to set up and shoot. Timing is everything to get the photo and the "guides" rush you in and out in order to get as many people in as possible. I have no idea of the cost. Reason for guide? Site is on reservation land. Hiked Fairyland Trail in Bryce a few months ago. No caves that I saw or heard of but that doesn't mean there aren't any.

I'm not an authority on COPD but I can assure the readers that the elevation at Bryce Canyon overlook is around 8300'. Obviously if you hike into the canyon, the elevation is lower.
