That's a shame I would have loved to see it bigger.
I think your rework has improved the shot quite a bit. The focus is certainly on the train now. The new sky also fits the shot a lot better than the original.
After shooting the original in raw I used Camera Raw to create three distinct Tiff images @ +/- 2ev. I then ran that through Photomatix then Photoshop and Topaz filters to finalize the image. The first is the original image. The second the result.
Great series - Actually, I think the "brightened-up" colors look a lot like the sky and lighting appear just before a really wierd summer storm hits. Nice Capture- Thanks for the post

Well done Rix, I see you have a habit a lot of us have. We tend to without really realizing it but we are always putting angry clouds in the sky. I like what you have accomplished, not overblown in the least. Great subjects !
Here are the adjustments, new sky, some touch ups, removed red tone from tracks and loco.
Just finally now found the reworked version, outstanding Rix, extremely well done. Sky looks much better, I think the reason we do the sky so boldly as the original is that we are trying to overcome a bland spot in the picture and we just loose ourselves in making the change. This one is spot on!!
