I am a pro, shopping for a very good friend. She wants 2 cameras....one for her son, one for herself. He was just accepted to RISD. Her budget is $500 for each camera/lens combo. I was hoping for something with a full image sensor (like an old 5D, not a 20D)

Good luck with that one! Canon EOS 5D mk 1 with a lens go for $1000 all day long....... you'll not get a full frame camera for $500 on planet Earth anyhow! Good luck searching though......

I have lots of FF cameras. They all use film. When I require FF, which is almost never, I use one and scan the negatives.

OK, maybe I am biased about the full frame. I'm sure she wouldn't care as much as I do. I like my 85 to be an 85, and my 28 to be a 28. An old 20D would be fine, I'm sure.

Take my advice, i did a lot of comparison shopping on the internet. Go directly to KEH.com The have the lowest prices of any used camera dealer (They happen to be the nations largest with over 60,00 items) Their prices are much lower than adorama, ucb, b=hphoto, and even ebay buy it now. I paid $160.00 for a Nikon D-100 in perfect shape that other sites wanted $250-500 for. In addition to the superb customer service, their very conservative ratings of their equipment(eveerything i have bought from them has been in better shape than stated on their website) Keh puts a 6 month warranty on the used equipment they sell. They also do in house repairs and have competitive repair prices andd quick turn around times. I do not work for KEH but am so happy with what ive gotten from them that I give them my highest recomendation. I guarentee you will not be disapointed. Right now yhey are offering free shipping on orders over $100.00. shiping is through Fed Ex so you know it will come and be in top shape, unlike the post office.

That sounds great. I am going to pass this on to my friend. It might be too late, but if not, she would love this.

I agree. Have bought from KEH for years. They are honest and give good service and even advice when needed and they have the best prices. A bargain camera with them is like excellent grade with some of the others.

fed ex just delivered today a Nikon N-90s and a tamaron 28-105 af zoom lens for less than 50 bucks shipping included. the N-90 ran me 10 bucks cause the back of the camera is sticky from having camera armour on it. This was the #2 camera in the nikon lineup (second only to the f-4) not that long ago. Heck you can't get a pizza for 10 bucks. KEH is the best.
