It is difficult to get a shot that hasn't been don to death in zoo shots.

#1 really caught my eye. I'm a zoo-goer and photo-taker, too, and am always trying to capture that picture that is under the radar. You're right - zoo pics can often turn into that vacation in the mountains with the family, blah. blah.. It takes an unusually unique approach to bring back that snap! You've got it!

Thank you davidk.
I do try to look for a different / unusual view and tend to take a good number of shots, most of which end up in the bin.
Some look as if they work on the back of the camera and are a disappointment when viewed on the big screen, however the others that I take and just think may work and sometimes do.
Over time you see more and more possible angles, detail that has a good chance of working, so things tend to get better with practice.
If I visit a place twice I review my older shots and think how I could have got a better result and try that.
If you're revisiting the same zoo I think that would be a helpful strategy to help you improve the number of shots you are happy with.
Good luck with you next visit.
