When looking at the photo gallery, what makes your decision to comment on a photo?
Who posted it?
Topic?
Because others commented?
Taking 1 to 3 hours each day with coffee before folks around the house get up, my decision to reply to a post or a photo is how it grabs me.
A joke that makes coffee, toast or cereal appear on my laptop keys or monitor is sure to warrant a reply.
A photo with bright colors, good focus or a portrait to be proud of warrants a reply.
Some posts, (Other than my own) just deserve a click on the 'back button' and a skip to the next post.

The photo and ONLY the photo.
On message boards in general, you will get 1 reply for every 100 views. I know with my pics in the image gallery, this is the average. I comment when the pic catches me in some way. Sometimes the pics are good, but already have 20 + comments and I just pass.
Photo, topic ,or mainly if I feel like adding my 2 cents worth is probaly the most honest answer of all.

If it strikes me somehow, and I think it merits a comment, I'll say something.

If I like it. :-)
image quality, interest, technical attributes
The photo gallery isn't for critiqing or for asking to be critiqed. Its there to show off ur images. There is a section called photo analysis for this.
What motivates me to comment is just the photo itself. If I like the combination of colors, composition, subject matter, & lighting, then I will definitely comment. Also if the subject matter is of a type that I am particularly fond of.

Interesting point! Might be something that Admin could do to improve the site: have the poster's
1st photo of each post appear alongside the subject line of each post, allowing the viewer to decide whether or not they wish to view all the photos from that post; would definitely alleviate the hassle of constantly clicking into/backing out of each post. But....nay, that'll never happen.

Whether I feel that I have anything useful (helpful) to say about it.
