I recently purchased a Nikon D3100 with an AF-S NIKKOR 18-55mm 1:3.5-5.6G lens and I am still learning how to use it.
I'm trying different things and checking the results, but it helps to have guidance and some instruction in addition to the Blue Crane Digital DVD Introduction to the Nikon D3100 Basic Controls.
I love photographing cats, people, landscapes and especially I want to to get a decent picture of the moon. Will no doubt need a tripod for that.
I found this site and forum while looking for information about saving files to Raw format with this camera.
Just starting out on this and I'm really excited about it. Looking forward to getting to know everyone on the forum!
May I recommend David Busch's book on the D 3100, under $20, ex: Amazon.

[quote=MrsSpooky] Welcome Mrs. Spooky. I have enjoyed taking pictures from the walkway at Celebration, FL. Behind the Bohemian is a wonderful place for wild life. Lets see some of your art. David

Hi mrs.Spooky...welcome to the hog. We are glad to have you. Keep asking questions. Yes, for most posed pictures, whether a portrait or the moon, a tripod would be very good to use. Also, a shutter release would be good to use.

Welcome to the UHH from another Orlandoan. We have a lot of fun and much information on about any subject you can think of. Great people and have made some great friends. Also you might want to try a remote shutter realease to make it easier. I got mine for about $20 at the big real camera store in Orlando.
Welcome. Post some pictures for us when you have the time.
