A little more info on what you think lighting conditions might be like would probably help here. Do you think there will be brighter lighting or mainly dark overall? How big is the venue going to be where you are shooting because you probably wont be able to use flash if its a smaller place. We could give you a thousand settings that wouldn't help you one bit if you get there and the lighting isn't what we are assuming it is.

Thanks for getting back to me.
Its a smaller venue Ill be up close with a 18-300 lens.
I would guess it will be like a bar, dark room with the stage lit with colorerd spots. i would like to catch some good close ups with the colorerd spotlights blurerd in the background.Im shooting with a D7100.
Thanks again, Rob

I've never heard of a smaller venue which would allow you to use a flash because it could be distracting. You might call the place to see what all they allow. The 18-300 should be able to get you just about anything that you want as far as close up shots of things. It will depend on how far the spots will be from the group or person for you to be able to set the DOF to throw them out of balance. If it were me I would start with my iso probably somewhere around 400 to 800 and then because I am more comfortable with shutter priority set my shutter somewhere around 1/200 or 1/250, check to see what my aperture was reading and check the meter to see what it was saying about the scene. If it was off then I'd try to set the shutter somewhere else and keep working. I'd also try to keep it at the widest open aperture as possible just to allow more light in. Unless you want a shot of all the members of the band and by focusing on one the others would be OOF because of the DOF. I know this isn't a lot to go on, but I'm not an expert on this, just trying to help you out. Especially since no one else has replied yet, which surprises me. You might want to use the search feature at the top (on the first line under where it says ugly hedgehog photography forum) and type in Settings for concert and see what threads may come up there. I know this is something that has been discussed before, but every location is going to be different. However it might give you some more ideas on what you could do.
