Nikon lens noise

I purchased a Nikon AF-S DX VR Zoom-Nikkor 55mm-200mm f/4-5.6G IF-ED Lens for my son (B'day). When auto focusing I can hear the motor and also a double click when it starts and stops. The noise is smooth and at a constant level.
The noise level is higher than my AF-S VR Zoom-NIKKOR 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G IF-ED, which I must be in a quiet room and concentrating to hear.
Is this a problem? Or am I being over critical.

The Nikon AF-S DX VR Zoom-Nikkor 55mm-200mm f/4-5.6G IF-ED is considered a kit lens, which means it is not quite the same material or construction quality, when compared to more expensive Nikkor lenses. On eBay this lens is available for $135 to $185. I acquired mine when I purchased a D5000 kit several years back.

I have not notice any more noise with my 55-200mm, than my other A-F Nikkor lenses.

If in doubt take it to a dealer and compare it with another identical lens.

The only noise I have heard in my 70-200 is the stabilization activation. It is the same sound I get when using stabilized binoculars. Just a click.

Thanks for the replies
The sound is smooth and doesn't bother my son so since the lens is working properly -focus etc I'll keep my mouth shut and enjoy photo shoots with him.
