I just downloaded free trial of Adobe Lightroom 5 Beta version and trying to understand how it works(which is quite different to PS). After editing in Develop I tried to save the changes but could not find any option of save or save as. Then I used save the quick collection. Now when I tried to find those saved files was unable to locate them. Where can I find them and transfer them to a flash drive?
You need to get some tuition for Lightroom basics . It is very different from Photoshop and it is possible with the Beta version that you will not be able to save the changes you make.It is in public beta to iron out and discover problems. I bought some lessons from Laura Shoe. Look her up on the net as she has a few free tutes. I still havent mastered it but I do intend to ,I keep promising myself. Good luck

thank you. i will try to look up on the net and see what I get.
In LR when you make changes in the develop module, the changes stay there unless you reset what you did. Now if you want to say send someone a copy you then need to export Control-Shift-E enter the parameters you want and where you want to save the photo then hit enter

Thank you. I guess need to get used to it. Can I work on layers in LR?

So far no layers in LR. OnOne and Topaz plug-in do allow layers within their programs

So far no layers in LR. OnOne and Topaz plug-in do allow layers within their programs, Otherwise you would need to export to PS

Thank you again. Fining it a little complicated as I am so used to PS CS. :-)
There is no open or save in LR only do. This allows you to move from image to image with no worries about loss of edits. It also means you never have to "save as", the original image is NEVER changed.
You couldn't find the files because they don't exist. Everything you do in LR is virtual. Say you apply some noise reduction, increase clarity, add 1/3 stop, and apply a lens correction. You see the changes on the display but until you "export" the image no image is created or changed, the edits are simply stored in the database and each time you view the image the edits you made get applied when the image is displayed.
Don't view LR as a replacement for PS, they work together with LR designed to be your main "go to" workspace and for the 1 image out of 50 that you need the advanced editing capabilities of PS you right click the image and select "edit in PhotoShop" and a duplicate image gets created and gets opened up in PS, you make the changes, exit PS saving changes and don't change anything in the name or path - leave it alone. LR will now have your edited image as well as the original in the catalog.
Also, take a look at the Adobe Website and other internet searches re: LR5 and you will find some tutorial info that should help you understand LR a little better.

Thank you. Should have done that first.
I've been working with Lightroom for more than three years and the learning goes on. I've been working with Photoshop for longer and know even less. I've tried Photoshop Elements and it too has its hidden gems. So today, I use LR4, CS6, and PSE11. The software is all up to date but I'm not. I'll be learning until I stop using them. It never ends until I do. You will only learn more as you use them more. There are no short cuts. Classes are nice and books are good too, but if you want to gain confidence in your competance for any photo editing software just use it a lot.
