Not familiar with PSP any more, but it sounds like your edited photos are being saved somewhere on your PC that you aren't aware of. All major programs have "Options" or "Preferences" that you use to set default behaviors. I'd bet your "output location" folder or whatever has changed, somehow, and you don't realize it.

I can't tell you specifically where it USED to be, or where it is now, but if you search for it, you'll find it.

Very few programs anymore delete your work after editing. So they've gotta be there someplace.

Odd. So, when you navigate to the folder you keep them in, they're gone? When you say disappear, do you mean from the editor from within PSP? Or apparently from your hard drive? If they "disappear" after you edit and save them, check the default folder that they're being saved to. It may be different than the source folder. Just a thought.

Also, check the Auto Preserve in the preferences. This might help as well.

You could always do a search from your start menu. I have had to do this on occasions when the file was save to a different folder. Thankfully, when I finish editing an image I give it a unique name, otherise I'd never remember the IMG # and all would be lost.

It may have change a file format to TIFF, look in your documents.

also are you using a PSD (personal storage disk) that may have activated unexpectedly, or is your hard drive partitioned?

If you are using Windows try going into the main program source folder... Click start menu. click my computer. c:/ would be default if no partitions are created. click C:/ drive. Go to program files. find your Corel Paint folder and go inside it. look in each folder. I bet you find the missing photographs inside this folder somewhere! Good luck!

Don't worry. Technically, this is not possible. Even if you deliberately deleted the files, they are still stored on one of the connected "hard-drives" or other storage devices. Deleting a file only changes the caracter of the file from a "protected" file. No other info can be stored at that place. Once the file is officially deleted, the protection gets lost but the info still stays there until it will be overriden by new info.
First, define all the places where your files can be stored and that are actively linked to the system. (Hard drive, flash drive, CD in one of the built in drives, links to automatic back up drives (online and offline). Download a free "file retrieve" software. (I believe I used Recuva)
Run the program on all the potential archiving places. All readable files will show up, ready for you to retrieve them.

PS: When giving away an old computer, make sure that you "bleach" your harddrive for reasons mentioned above.

Jennifer, don't worry. The photo's are still there, they are just hiding! This happened to me the other day on our families main computer (I do my photo editing on my laptop). do a google search for something like 'where did my photos go' or something like that and it will give you ideas on how to change your view. The photo's are there, it's a weird quirk in windows that scared me as well. good luck

This last contribution gives me another idea. Go into the "serach" menue (at start) of windows, type in " .jpeg " without the " and all your jpeg files should show up.

I have a Dell desk top but I don't think its the computer. I have a similar thing going on. I backup all my images to a second desktop hard drive but it doesn't seem to matter. For example I recently shot 25-30 images of food for my portfolio. I printed some 4x6 and edited others. All saved to the hard drive and in the catalog in Lightroom. Last week I went in to get the images using light room and the folder showed "0" images. I went to my hard drive where I stored them. Gone! I then went in to get some images I shot some years ago of Yosemite. 40 images gone! There are numerous folders with images that have vaporized while the empty folders remains. Does anyone out there know of a Virus or something getting into our drives and occassionally deleting images?

Open a picture file with your photo editing program (one you have already saved). Go to the top of your screen and left click on file. Choose "Save As" On the drop down menu check the file type shown on the box shown under the file name you want to save. Sometimes one might change the file type when saving a file. Your file directory will show only the file type currently shown in the file type box. Click on the down arrow on the file type box and change the file type selection. This might be the problem. Keep changing the file type until your files show up on the directory window.
