Evening All,
I have been pulling my hair out over some of these, and am definatley going to have to start bringing in backdrops. Using the wall/floor worked for a while for backgrounds, and on some of them it is fine, but the brown border collie was the worst one and I love the dogs face, that's why I kept it and spent over an hour just working on the darn floor surrounding it!!!! Ok, I feel better now that I have that out of my system :) and thank you all for listening to me :) This class graduates Saturday and I have all the photos printed up for them and ready to pass out with their graduation certificates. I'm pleased with most of them, but there are a few that no matter what I and the owners did, the dogs did not want to cooperate, but that is half the fun, seeing if we could get them to stay still :)

One of the instructors in training has been trying to get me to start charging, but I keep trying to tell her, I'm not ready for that yet and I just enjoy getting in the practice and giving the students the photos because I want to. I think it will be a long, long time, if ever, that I feel I am good enough to charge people. I'm just enjoying myself and loving every minute of it. Well, need to get to bed, but here they are :) Night all...
Debbie

I think they are great, and if other people do too, then why not charge for them? At least to cover the cost of your materials. It makes people feel like they are getting something of value - It doesn't have to be expensive. Think of it this way... The People at places like Olan Mills that take family portraits... They aren't skilled photographers, but they charge because someone provided a camera, and a job opening. They made it their so called profession. Why not do animal photography? You seem to be good at it, and learn as you grow. I would love to do something like that, but until then ... I'm just a camera noob learning the ropes, but as soon as I know what I'm doing... Watch out!

Thank you Terri :) I appreciate your kind words and I really do love taking the dogs photos. I've even had a few people comment that they hope they get to see their dog on the Obedience Facebook Page, unaware that they will be getting a photo to keep, so that just makes it all that much better knowing they are enjoying what they are seeing.
Thanks again :)

Thank you Jinzee, and I hear what you're saying, but I still don't feel comfortable enough yet. I told the training instructor maybe, and thats a BIG maybe I will feel better about it by Christmas and we can try Christmas photos. We'll just have to see. I am still pretty new at this "portrait" thing, but I do love it :)

Great photos! You capture the mutual devotion between dogs and humans. You might enjoy a movie (nova) film from Netflix, "Decoding Dogs," about how dogs became domesticated and how they enabled our process of civilization.

All very nice but I like the German Shepherd best (even though I'm not a fan of the breed).

Thank you for your kind words and I will have to see if I can find that movie. Sounds interesting and I love to watch movies about or with dogs in it :) Hachi is a real tear jerker!
