Interesting concept. Human intervention has altered the landscape in the UK probably more than in many other countries, mainly through agricultural practices since the dark ages.
This has been documented through art in the medium of painting and now with photography. If you're looking for "human intervention" in the landscape you could do worse than focus, no pun intended :) on farming and forestry.
Good luck

Devonians as in belonging to the geologic time, system of rocks, or sedimentary deposits of the fourth period of the Paleozoic Era, characterized by the development of lobe-finned fishes, the appearance of amphibians and insects, and the first forests. Since there were no humans during that period (And the OP is referring to human intervention on the landscape) this comment is about as appropriate as many of your others. Just sayin :D :D

Being clever can be a challenge

Actually, the Devonian Period is named such because rocks of that era were first studied in Devon.

Hi everyone,

I'm currently researching for a 2.500 word essay I have to write, but I'm really struggling to create the title/question.

I'm looking at human intervention on our landscape, so looking at photographers such as Richard Misrach, Fay Godwin, Jem Southam, just to name a few (all have great work so definitely take a look!)
The best I've come up with so far is How does photography highlight human intervention in the landscape? But I'm not 100%

Any ideas for the question?

Thanks =]

How about finding lots of photographs of your town and surrounding area from say 100+ years ago and trying to find the same vantage point to shoot from now.Sometimes it is not necessarily the name of the 'tog as much as the captured image that matters. It's probably more how photography has documented human intervention on the landscape.

I've been thinking about these questions for weeks, you make it seem so simple! Thanks for your help.

How about a photograph of the Hoover Dam. It surely changed the landscape for hundreds of miles upstream and down?

Also, a large auto manufacturing plant changes the local landscape but also places thousands of autos and the resulting paved roads for the autos to drive on?

That is a direction which one could take to define some of the project?
Good Luck,
Sonny

What "spin" are you looking to use? For instance: "Human intervention has destroyed the landscape", "Human intervention is now improving the landscape" to mention two. the tag line: "Can/does photography adequately capture the ...", or "How could photography better capture and display the ..."

Good point...what do you want the reader to leave with....?

Also for grins and giggles try using "The Camera" instead of photography...just a thought...

Photographs - They do depict man's intervention on the landscape......

Any ideas for the question?

From the images of those you mention, I think the word "intervention" is wrong irrespective of how you combine it in any title. " Interface" sounds better to me. How about: "Landscape: The Human Interface".
Although short titles generally are preferable, a more descriptive title for the type of your essay could be "Landscape, the Human Interface
in Photography" .

Great responses everybody thank you.
The project is a written essay rather than an actual photo project, so I am looking for an actual title/question for my essay.
