Just joined today. Have had a camera in my hand since I was a child. Am a part time photo taker who would like to better my skills. Have had a Canon Rebel xsI for a few years, take mostly photos of the grandkids these days. Do a lot at the beach. Am thinking of updating my camera body, not sure to what.

I like my rebel T3.. it is the basic model in the line. It has a few very useful functions over point and shoot type cameras.

Hi ElizPic, welcome to the hog. The best suggestion i can give you is to pick a Canon that will accommodate the lenses you have. I had a Canon 20D... I wanted a Canon 5DmkII or a 7D but i found that the only camera that would accommodate the lenses i have was the 60D. Im very satisfied so far. So, check out the lens to body fit. Looking forward to seeing some of your work.

Welcome, I am also from NJ. I do not understand a reply you got. The 20D camera is a "C" sensor and so is the 7D so I don't know why you were told the lenses from the 20D would not fit. Canon "EF" or "S" lenses would fit. Wait for the 7D Mk II if you are able and have the $$ to buy it. This will be the top of the line for Canon "C" sensor equipment based on the 5D MkIII.
