I am taking a Drive/ cruise to Alaska this Summer. I am looking for a new camera. Was thinking about the DSC HX200V, about $275.00. Now I see their DSC hx300, $499.00. Any suggestions/comments?
You might look @ the Canon Compact ZOOM Powershot (24mm to 1200mm optical !) SX50 HS.

Yes..after weeks of pondering (dslr or bridge) I went for the canon sx50, I know some so called experts call it a toy, but I didn't want to lug around a lenses and the like. I am really impressed, I have taken some really impressive shots (well I think I have)plus it can shoot in RAW which the sony hx300 can't. Most of the reviews about the canon sx50 give it 5 stars...I can see why now.

If its any comfort Fuzzy1, last year I bought an Olympus sp-810uz bridge camera..it doesn't come anywhere close to this canon, but if you wait long enough (and save your pennies) this camera will be old hat this time next year and you can bet a longer zoom and better sensor will be available!!.
ps you dont want to buy an Olympus sp810uz do you?.LOL.

You sound like you know me..have $42.50 saved up will have my new camera by years end lol..I did buy a tripod HELPS with my hand shake....The Sony does a good job....need to start posting more photos.....peace be with you and yours George
We have used both Cannon and Sony . We like the Sony best, because, you could zoom in on a picture and save it.
I have the Sony HX5V. It is a great camera. If had the money to upgrade this small camera I get Sony's latest and greatest HX series camera.

Canon SX50 is perhaps the most recommended camera of its type available. I have used on and and hands down it takes great photos and it shoots in raw.
