I am fully aware of its not so stellar low iso performance but i have great glass.I have really worked hard at learning this camera and it has done well.Did the Japanese Festival and the Balloon race at Forest Park before i went under the knife.

I had just worked two events and the Pro i was working with was very happy.

What would be a step up that wont break my bank,im not working may never do what i did ever again.Still trying to get my foot back in the door, wedding season is coming.Getting a grant to go back to college for photography. So i will be short of funds for a while.

The d-300s is starting to age a bit, but is a nice step up from the d-200. Also, I think the d-7000 is a great buy right now, as prices have dropped since the d-7100 just came out. If you want to stretch a little on price and step up big time, look at a used d-700 full frame. It is an awesome camera.

I was looking at the D7000. There is one here with 6k on the shutter and he wants $800.00.
Thus far nothing i have tied into has train wrecked the D200,oh i have a pair of SB900's. So im sure thats part of it.
Im a little soft on the old girl, first paying job ever was with it.

I agree with bennetphoto. I have all three of these cameras. While it is/was a great camera, I would skip the 300s and aim for a D7000 or better yet, a D700 if you can swing it. The 700 would make better use of the wide end of your 24-105. Both the 7000 & 700 do great at high ISO; almost the same results in the test I did. The 300 isn't in the same league there. Do you have a flash?...oh, I see you have two SB900.

Good luck!

$800 is high for a used d-7000, you can get a new one for that price. Amazon is currently advertising them used starting at $639. The d-7100 just started shipping a couple weeks ago. You will see the d-7000 price drop even further in the near future.

A new D7000 body
I'm seeing online pricing for a new D7000 body at $896 tonight 4/10. But, I agree with the ideas proposed: 1) get a much cheaper used D7000 body 2) get a new d7000 3) wait for further reductions in the new / used prices of the D7000 4) go with the D7100 that appears to be an outstanding camera. The more I see / read, I'm leaning toward idea 4 ....

Nikon D7000 should be a good choice, Keep the D200 for back up. It is still a good camera.

I bought the D 200 about six months after it was released. I have been using it professionally to this day. I shoot mostly product. But I have used the D 200 in the production of probably 20 or 30 illustrative ads in national magazines. I think used the D 200 is probably the best value to be had. For my taste the D 200 produces better images than the D 300 and D 300 S. Keep in mind that 90 % of what I do is with Speedotron studio lighting. I don't need high ISO settings. In order to get rid of the noise with a higher ISO settings, cameras after the D 200 soften the image. It's a trade-off, but for my taste the D 200 is bit sharper. When they die, I have several, I will probably replace them with a used digital Hasselblad, or Leica S1. The point of all of this is that the D 200 is quite capable of producing professional quality work.

I also use one of these, S3 pro, it is a studio back up at a little in-house studio I work at sometimes. It is capable of producing professional grade files. It's harder on batteries and kind of fussy about what memory card goes in. Nowhere near the quality that the D 200 is.

The Fuji S5 is made with the D200 body. Fantastic skin color! The batteries look identical to the Nikon but aren't interchangable.
