I am certain many of you are by now proud owners of Nikon D7100. My question: Has D7100 met you needs? Is it a great camera? Is it better than D7000 in every aspect?

Should I buy D7000 ($899.00 body only) or should I invest in D7100 ($1199.00 body only). Currently I own a Nikon F4 (35mm) D90 and D3100. Just want to upgrade to something semi-pro.

Thanks.

For $300, I would go with the newer camera. A year from now, it will be one year old, while the D7000 will be, what, three years old. Take a look at www.snapsort.com and compare them. Although the 7100 isn't worlds ahead of the 7000, it is moving in the right direction.

I skipped the D7000 and upgraded my D90 to the D7100 and it truly is a wonderful camera.

Nice camera, but a little out of my budget right now. Thanks though.

The D7000 is an amazing camera, I have no experience with the 7100.
I liked the D7000 better than the D300s, mainly for the high ISO capabilities. I found the image quality of the 7000 about the same as the full-frame D700. Granted the 700 is older technology but a great camera as well.
Bigger improvements can be had with the better lenses and what's behind the viewfinder.

Thank you for the "Quote Reply" tip.
I think I have made up my mind and I am going with D7000, like you said it 50/50 where first 50 is equipment and the last 50 is whats behind the viewfinder. Thanks for clearing up my foggy mind.

I had same dilema. I upgraded to D7000 from my D90. Opted for D7000 over D7100 for two reasons. Price and the fact that the difference between the D7000 and D90 was substantial enough for me and my limited ability. The D 7001 just added a little bit more difference and it wasn't enough to pay the extra money.
FYI this forum conviced me to purchase "reburbished". I purchased a factory refurbished D7000 from Cameta Camera. $749.00. 596 shutter activations. One year warranty, no tax, full money back if not happy. Includes all accessories which are new.
Extremely happy with this camera and the seller.

Still playing with my new D7100, since I waited until Adobe upgraded LR 4. The changes in the dial I love, fast autofocus, but larger files, need better technique for sharp photos due to higher MPX and no anti-alias filter. If I was just buying now I would buy the D7100 over the D7000
Here is a site for comparison http://nikonrumors.com/2013/02/21/nikon-d7100-vs-nikon-d7000-specifications-comparison.aspx/

I made a mistake when I sold my D300 (a DX) and made up my mind to replace it - did so with the D7100. The deciding factor was its "reach" - its Image Area is either DX or 1.3x. What I've read is that with the 1.3 and a 1.4x teleextender you doubled the mm of the lens. I had a brief demo in the store which was the "convincer" and then when I got hom I compared the 2 settings with my 80-400 with and without my 2x (don't have a 1.4). To me, the enlargement/magnification - whatever - was rather astounding. Given doubling is correct, I now have the equivalent of a 160-800mm lens. Didn't save anything that I could show.

Don't know if the D7000 has this feature or not.

The D7100, no question...at least in my mind. I had my D7000 from the first week that it was available and it was a a great camera. I have had my D7100 for two weeks and am amazed at its performance, excellent in evry respect (although I do not use the video mode).I cannot believe how much better it is than the d7000!

I to prefered my D300 to the D7000 I finally decided as I am retired to upgrade one last time as I did not care for the D7000 so I upgraded to the D800 and let me tell you this is one awesome camera.
