Aren't I the savvy shopper? LOL I don't usually brag about saving a buck or two, but I am as pleased as punch with myself right now. I needed a camera bag to carry and protect all my camera gear, so I went to Walmart to check them out. Up until recently, I only had one lens, so the camera just went along on a strap. But even at Walmart's so called low prices, a camera bag, big enough to hold a DSLR, an extra lens and a few extra gadgets and gear, was in the 60-70 dollar range. Which in the scheme of things, isn't allot to protect over a thousand dollars worth of camera, but I just don't have that kind of money right now, however I found the solution. In the sporting goods section, I picked up a shooters bag for under 20 bucks, that has padded pockets inside for extra scopes, pistols etc. and a hard plastic bottom for protection. Then for just a few bucks, I picked up some foam padding (made for seat cushions) from the sewing and material section. Now I can cut the foam to my specific needs. So, not only do I have a bigger and better camera bag, it's custom made to suit my needs, it has more protection than the camera bags on the market, AND I got it for a fraction of the cost of a designer bag :-) You go me! lol

DannyBoy1969 I find this so funny, I went there and got the
one that had 5 plastic divider boxes for fishing lures, ditched
the boxes (Garage for screw assortments) and it has web
side pockets and plenty of storage. I did the same cutting
my foam up for liners also.
It was serving me well until all these good folks here said you
need this and that so now I upgraded to a Pelican hard box.
I got it for air travel (Lot more than the bag at Walmart) and
after getting more stuff I am gonna need a bigger box to put
in the old truck. I is good to see other people that are willing
to use a Presidential Solution to modern day problems.   mdh

Another Option is to go to Harbour Freight. They sell aluminum Cases with Foam inserts that are configurable to whatever you want to protect. That and they have tool slots in the lid that you can use for different gadgets, then a long strap that makes them easy to shoulder carry or use the attached handle.

I have been using a box shaped soft lunch cooler bag . just the right size for my 3 extra lens - 24, 50, 35-70 & matched 2X for my 70-150 I keep on the camera - I keep all my lens in padded lens bags for extra protection. Also this helps when the camera in in that hot car in the summer.
People will steal camera bags, tool boxes and such but No one wants to steal my lunch. LOL

LOL - my house is so far back in the woods I don't need a watch dog - the bears and mountain lions do it for for me. When I go out on camera safaris I leave an open box of 9mm shells on the dashboard of my car. Makes people wonder where the rest of them are and where I maybe.

I just picked up a hunter's vest at Canadian Tire for $15. It had been reduced from $49.99 to 29.99 and then to $15. It has many pockets with closures to keep things organized. It works just as well for a card wallet as it would for a cartridge wallet. It holds my extra batteries and flashlights just as well as if I was using the for hunting. There is even a place to store my lunch!
:-D
