I have the FZ50 and love it. I travel extensively, use it for nature photography, and ocassionally use it for close-up work. The lens is as sharp as any I've ever seen. It is easy to carry and very responsive to all possible situtations. I regurarly make 15x20'' prints (both paper and canvas) that do well in juried shows.

Does anyone have a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ50. Not alot of people have this camera. I love it, wanted to know what kind of accessories you use. Telephoto lens I got but my camera goes from 32mm to 420mm. So therefore I would not need a telephoto lens right?

Hi! I have the FZ50 for 5 years, and love it! I use it as my secondary to my Nikon D200.
I used it to take infra-red imaging, and I have a Raynox 2.2X tele-convert for long distance shooting.
Here are two example pictures, hope you like them.

I have both myself. The Canon (and Nikon) SLR's require adding lenses depending on the situation. There is a certain snob appeal in that. The only way to judge quality is to compare the photos from each. Most people couldn't tell the difference, assuming the photographers in both cases are amateurs. At some point you may want to get an SLR because of the added control and challenge. My suggestion is to use the Panasonic indefinitely. if you want to get a professional level camera in the future, skip the Rebels and get a Canon 7D or it's equivalent.

Why would you skip the Rebels? Im looking to get into professional photography. So in your opinion a 7D would be the best bet. I want to be able to print large pictures and have them not look distorted. You would perfer a 7D over a Nikon? So would a 7D be between a entry-level and a pro camera. Sorry Im still kinda stupid when it comes to this stuff.

looks like a good deal,if you need all the extras,
i bought the 7d and bought and sold many lens to find the
few i have now,the back pack needs to fit your style
and body, may want to buy that from a camera shop,i found the lowepro sling bag works great for me,the 75-300 lens
is not a good lens, look for the 70-300 just a little more
money, for 1500 you should get off to a good start

Will I be able to take professional quality portraits with a 7D? and be able to enlarge over an 8x10?

The Nikon-Canon rivalry is historic. I used Nikon during the film era because it was reputed to have the best lenses. I've been told Canon was the first to bring out digital cameras while Nikon hesitated. A professional photographer/ friend told me back in 2004 that Canon was the camera of choice among fellow pros. That's why I switched to Canon. On UHH you'll see comments arguing for one or the other. Sometimes the comments are immature and meaningless. Technically the two manufacturers are comparable now. I believe people choose one or the other depending on when they bought, how comfortable they are with the button arrangement and other controls, and what they think the heavy-weight pros use. You can't go wrong with either one. You sound ambitious which is why I recommended the 7D over the Rebels. You can definitely achieve a professional level with the 7D and I know several pros who use that model. (But a professional can get professional level photographs with almost any camera including a pocket size point and shoot.) If you go to a local camera store you can ask the manager about his opinion and test drive the various models. Then you can make a decision that will serve you well for years to come.

Yes, the picture of the bridge was taken a R-72 IR filter, and the Moon pic. was taken with a 2.2X Raynox tele. converter, all by using the ZF50 Panasonic.

I'm strictly an amateur, got the DMC 50 it's second year on the market and am very satisfied. It was my verse venture into digital after years of Minolta film cameras. My main reason for choosing it was the versatility of the fixed zoom lens avoiding the need to carry a bag most if the time. Video isn't important to me so I've no comment on that aspect.

Auto function works well for me and the digital mode makes it easy to learn/experiment with A,F and M settings. The Image Stabilization is another excellent feature. I've not found much use for the flip screen and it's that screen that's forcing me back into the market.
The screen is just too small. I'm currently looking at Canon 3300, Nikon 5300 and Pentax K 50 and leaning towards Pntax because of IS feature and price. But the Lumix will be a great back-up!

I've had this camera for 6 or 7 years...my first venture into the digital world. The built in zoom is great and saves carrying around multiple lenses. I'm strictly an amateur and am well satisfied with picture quality. I haven't had much use for the flip screen in shooting, I always use the view finder to shoot. I do like to use the screen to review my pics but now I find it to be too small. Soooooo...looks like I'll be back in the multiple lens market again!
But I'll have a great back-up!
