I've done my research and I'm down to these 2 lens. I know the sigma has some soft spots but this is my hobby not my livelihood. I just want to know how owners of these lens feel. I'm not looking for links for comparison.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Pappy

No contest I have posted the review of all the lenses many times

Sigma wins all the time in the reviews by independent magazines.

Took me an hour to find this and scan in for you,

I have the Sigma 50-500mm and really enjoy it. Try to stay back from 500mm, but have good shots there, also. It CAN get heavy, but I do shoot hand held.

I had the 100-400 Canon lens for about 4 years. I hated it. I actually ruined many photos because I used it full out. Maybe it was front focusing but I even sent it to Canon for calibration and it was still the same. Very soft shots. I sold it to upgrade to a fixed 300mm. Can't comment on the Sigma since I've never owned one.

I just bought the Sigma a week ago based on the discussions and the photos posted on UHH. I agree with JR that the Sigma is a great lens. The couple of hundred you save at purchase time is really nice too.

I have to disagree. I have the Canon 100-400 and love it. Mine is very sharp and I think it is a great lens.

Get the Canon 100-400, you will be happy with it.

I have one too, great "L" lens. Had it for 6 years with no problems.

Love that L lens so much, bought Canon EF 70-300 f/4-5.6 L IS USM (great lens) and ordered Canon EF 70-200 f/2.8 L IS II USM, waiting for Adorama to send it after the Passover holiday.

You get what you pay for.

No one has said it isn't a great lens, and it is, no post of mine has ever said it is not, just that independent reviews rate the sigmas higher when everything is taken in to account

The Sigmas are also newer spec wise 4 stop VR/IS instead of 3

Why do you feel that you need to explain yourself to me, JR.
I merely stated the canon 100-400 is a Great lens. I can attest to it, because i own it.
