I love these small birds of prey :-D I shot this one with my Pentax K 10D...focal length 300...ISO 200...F8 and 1/1000th.

The Shrike is a predatory songbird...a very small bird of prey. Loggerhead Shrike males may impale multiple prey items and adorn them with bird bills and feathers to attract a mate.

Thanks Wahawk...he sure did...barbed wire is one of their favorite hang outs. They like to impale their prey on the barbs.

Interesting that you should get it on a barbed wire fence. The loggerhead frequently captures it's prey and impails it on the barbs of the fence so that it may enjoy at it's leisure.

Great capture, we call the Shrikes here "Butcher birds" our resident winter Shrike has been somewhat elusive this year.

Coming from Toronto perhaps the Northern Shrike would be the one you see. Close cousin
