Had problems with Tamron lens on my Pentax K5. Tried two new items. 18-200. Would not focus between 18-35. No good answer why. Was well priced but would not work. Ended up with Pentax 18-135 WR which works fine. Better off since this gives me a WR lens to go with the WR camera.

Yesterday I went to use my trusty 70-200 2.8 Tamron on my Nikon d7000 and it would not focus on AF. It works on manual but not AF. It's always worked. I was using off camera flash with those younguo poppers to trigger the flash off camera. I don't know it that is what caused the problem? I wouldn't think so though. It should work. I took those off and it still wouldn't work. So frustrated. Not sure where to look for help. I've been googling ideas but haven't found any answers yet.
Where it usually tells me the aperture setting on the top of my d7000 it has a F - - sign now. So I assume that is just telling me focusing problem. It even shows that same sign when I put it to manual focus. HELP!!!

Do you have access to another NIKON that you could put your lens onto and see if it will focus with a different camera. Just saying
I recently had the same problem with my Tamron 70-200 f2.8 with a Sony mount. I tried everything that has been noted and finally sent it to the Tamron repair center in Toronto. They did an estimate and the repairs were going to be nearly $500 using used repair parts. I loved the lens but decided that it wasn't worth spending that much on repairs when I can buy a new lens for around $750 with a guarantee. I bought the lens used so I didn't have any guarantee.
I hope you have better luck that I did.

Hi All, I had a problem with my Tamron 18-270mm lens just last December. Keep in mind, Tamron warranty their lenses for 6 years. You may want to look up your purchase date, and send it in. I got my Tamron 18-270mm lens back in only 12 days. They do have a quick turn around. If you bought it used I would still give them a call. The lens warranty is based on the serial number, the original owner may not have registered it. The problem sounds like it is internal to the lens, since the camera has identified the focus problem. Good luck.
surely you hold the camera the other way so dirty drops out not in i have pmswl with this image

Simple, get cotton bud and clean these
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DhZrfc3kZ8sIN REALITY I simply lick a white hanky and wipe them over, or a cotton bud, Just took this for you cleaning one of my Sigmas, licked (new) toilet paper.
Same for camera contacts but I use a cotton bud for them and don't press hard

My Tamron 70 300mm zoom went south last year and would not properly hold vibration reduction.
I sent it back to Tamron under warranty for repair and had it back within a week. They had fully repaired it and reset the lens to correct zoom creep.
No cost and well done repair. Your lens comes with a 6 year warranty! send it to Tamron.
I will check on this idea. thanks. Others had mentioned checking the aperture setting on the lens. I don't think there is a way to change aperture on the actual lens? I was able to change it on the camera but not the lens. Not it just blinks at me on the camera.

Does the lens have an auto/manual focus switch? If so, give that a look at. Make sure it's on auto, and the camera also.
yes it has an auto/manual focus button. I've checked that many times. Wish it were that simple!! Bummed but have hope that I can send it back and have as good of luck getting it back as quickly
