On another of my posts, several people have responded and the topic of Homer, Alaska was brought up. I thought I'd post few photos taken on the Homer spit.
Note: A "spit" is defined as a naturally occurring slender finger of land extending into the sea. In Homer, the spit extends into Kachemak Bay. Kachemak is the native word for Smokey Bay.
Winter Afternoon and the Homer Spit
Salty Dog Saloon - Imfamous watering hole
Summer Businesses on the Spit
Very nice AK...I want to have a drink at the Salty Dawg!
The only time I visited Homer was in 1969! I had to pick up a 36 foot boat and run it over to Seward! Boy that was a loooooonnnnnggggg time ago!

Let's go...I'll buy the first one. By the way, if you watch Deadliest Catch on tv, the Hilstrand brothers had a scene in the bar on one of their episodes.

That pre-dates me by 2 years! I've taken that trip around Pogie Point...passed Chrome Bay..and on to Seward. Beautiful trip but exposed to some pretty rough open water.
It sure was a lot ruffer than we expected! Not like the waters I was used to in Florida! I ran the boat out of the Air Force Rce Camp for two years. Loved Seward!

I lived in Homer for a year (1953) and really liked it... My Dad worked for the CAA and we lived in Gov housing at the airport, which from pictures I've lately seen have been torn down...
The Spit was strictly commercial fishing port... Back then, Homer was known as the King Crab Capital of the world...
Beautiful. Love the first one best I think.

Did you see my $bill on the ceiling over the stool at the end of the bar?
Ah ha ! Thats the model I couldn't remember the name of... There was an airline that operated out of Ketchikan that used the Mallards - Ellis Airlines...
