And you could add: Always save the original to go back to if you really mess up, or to compare a new version with. Work on a copy of the original.

Have you gone back to the original and copied the bird to try to scale it up within the photo? You also might be able to highlight it a little more.

Well you need to go back to the your original file because scaling the bird from the thumbnail that was posted really only gets you a highly pixelated bird, even if you go through the process in increments it still will be a blurry pixelated bird.
