LR4 question

I'm a photoshop guy, elements to be precise, so I have no idea about LR. I just upgraded to PSE11, and also purchased LR4. When I load a raw file into PSE, it automatically launches Adobe Camera Raw. However, when I load a raw file into LR, it does not launch ACR. How do I open ACR within LR??

Thank You.

As soon as a file is imported into LR that file is in ACR. Look at the sliders in the Develop Module and compare them with those in the Elements version, they are the same but lots more of them.

ACR in Elements is very good, no disputing that, but LR can do so much more with raw files, even jpgs and tiffs.

There are a few introductory tutorials on this forum, they will stand you in good stead.

Spot on Searcher, and with LR4 you can edit photos directly to Elements with any LR adjustments and then store the 'Photoshopped' image in LR. Adobe does a great job with that.

And this alone is a reason to have both programs installed. Adobe made it so easy to move a photo(s) to PSE for something like brushing out a power line and back again to LR while preserving the original export. Maybe Adobe will adopt the healing brush and content aware feature in LR in the future?

I am actually stuck with this very situation -- in LR4, when I send an image to PSE and edit there, how do I get the edited image back into LR? Do "save" or "save as"? Then what?

LR has the Develop module which is very similar to ACR and performs the same function as ACR.

Assuming you have got from LR to PSE by using the "Edit in" sub-menu:
Save, close PSE and the corrected image will appear in LR.
If you "Save as" and give the image a new file name, the corrected image will NOT go be returned to LR, you will have to reimport.

LR will certainly handle your D200 Nef files.
It makes sense to use the LR "organiser", see tutorials mentioned in this topic. If you previously have sorted your files using the Op system, LR will use that. Don't forget, LR will never move files of it's own accord.

Thanks, Searcher -- that is the problem. I have learned how to take it to PSE, and when I hit "Save", it doesn't bring it back to LR. Don't know why it just doesn't do anything. Don't know how to troubleshoot.

I have written a tutorial which should set you in the right direction but it is five pages of pics and word files. If you pm me your email address I will send it directly. With the pictures its too big to put here and also this thread belongs to someone else.

I will email it to anyone who would like a copy.
