I am contimplating upgrading from D60 to the Nikon 5100. I wonder about the durability or usefulness of the screen. Any opinion? Thanks

I had the d70 move to a d5000 then to d300s. the 5000 is a nice upgrade a lighter camera

I have the 5000 with tilt out screen I use it for weddings and find it durable,extremely useful but slow to focus on live view.

I just upgraded from a D50 to the D5100, what a difference, bigger screen and many angles to view from. Great upgrade!!

I've had the D5100 since July and about 5000 shots so far.
Everything about the screen is as advertised. Nice thing is that
when the camera is packed away, I can pack the screen away
too. Much less chance of damage that way.

I have a d90, I just recently purchased, because I ordered the d700 and after two months I got tired of waiting. I also shoot with a d40x and a d60, I used whenever I leave the country to minimize a lost if it occurs. I rented a d5100 before I made the decision and it took excellent pictures, however it lacked the internal auto-focus motor for most of my lens.

My wife recently up-graded from a D3000 to the D5100. She is completely satisfied with it (she handled several advanced models and they were just too large for her small hands) and has found the screen more useful that she thought it would be.

I use my D90 for macro-photography, and my D5000 for general photography. Great combo.

I use the screen on my D5000 on about half the landscape shots I take. Its greatest advantage is the fact that you can auto-focus the camera to any spot on the screen, and not be limited by the view finder's 11 points. In manual focus, you can enlarge the image so you can really see the detail. Finally, it is a great help when it is physically impossible to get to the view finder. One last point, since the mirror is up in live view, there is less vibration when taking the image.
