If your talking about an old box camera from the 30s the film was 25 asa spring loaded shuter, no adjustment. Some had a sliding hole behind the lens so you could change apature. They came in differant sizes that took differant size film. Before that it was the pin hole cameras. Had no lens at all.

Here is my Kodak no.2 from early 1900s.

Sorry Doug Thats not a box camera. Thats called a folding camera. Kodak made thousands of them. They had a lot more controls than the box camera.

This camera says Kodak and has a date on it of 1915. The shutter is spring loaded and there appears to be some kind of one single lens. I have another camera from the same era that is similar, but has an adjustment on the side that I assume changes exposure some way. I will have to look to see if it changes the size of the hole. Thanks for the info.

I have an according type very similar to this. It's an Ansco Viking from Germany around 1930. I'm sorry to go off topic, but do any of you know where I can get a cable release for these types of camera? It does have the normal female end, but it is sooooo tiny.

Hal, I got a look at a picture of that camera. It has a Pronto lens with a BTL shutter. The cable socket appears to be one of the standard tangential tapered screw models. However, some of those were retrofitted with an insert that took a release with a finer thread and thinner cable. Pig Pen might want to ensure that he doesn't have one of those adapters installed. If he does, he might have to use a very small E-Z-Out yo very carefully remove it. The receptacle will then accept a standard tapered thread. Here is the URL of the picture I saw:

Thank you both. This thing is small. I just went to look for it, but my wife has recently moved some stuff to the basement. I may never see it again!!!!! I will dig it out this weekend, snap a shot of it, come back to this thread and post it so you guys can see what I'm talking about. It is difficult to hold this thing steady and hit the shutter. A cable release would be a big help. Thanx again.
