You mean you guys weren't serious? Now I'm disillusioned, which is to say that my SB-23 has disappeared down a wormhole. I'll let you know where or when I surface, if I can tell ahead of time.

I was told that the Nikon SB-900 flash unit was designed for film cameras and that I should chooses something different for my D90. Any thoughts?

No, they're right - the SB-900 generates light waves using the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle, which, when translated to camera terms, means that when you take a shot and use the flash, it will stop your subjects movement, but you won't be able to tell where they are. The newly announced, but not yet produced SB-900D flash unit for digital sensors creates its light waves using Feynman photon-transducer units hooked to one of the new Rockwell Retro-encabulators, and as opposed to the regular SB-900 units, will not stop action, but you will be able to tell the LOCATION of your subject. Nikon engineers are working on a flash unit that will eventually show where your subjects have been, but not where they are RIGHT NOW, at the moment of flash.

You CAN use the film-only SB-900 flash unit, you just need to take your Nikon to any camera store, and ask to have a 'film sensor' installed instead of the digital sensor that's there now. Then you'll be set.

I like to learn but when I have to look up half the words it requires the legal limit on my aspirin supply to get through. But I laughed so hard my headache went away.
